Role Summary
The Technical Writer Manager leads a team responsible for creating, maintaining, and controlling high-quality technical documentation for complex government systems. The role ensures documentation meets DoD standards, military specifications (MIL-STD, S1000D), and federal plain language guidelines, while managing staff, workflows, and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and evaluate a team of technical writers/editors
Establish documentation workflows, style guides, and production schedules
Ensure all documentation meets contract, military, and government standards
Review, edit, and approve manuals, SOPs, user guides, training materials, and reports
Serve as primary point of contact with engineers, SMEs, program managers, and government clients
Develop and maintain SharePoint sites for knowledge sharing and document management
Manage resource allocation and team schedules to meet deadlines
Participate in budget and resource planning for the technical writing team
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance team performance
Required Qualifications
Active TS/SCI clearance
Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Minimum 3 years of progressive technical writing/editing experience, including at least 3 years in management
Experience supporting DoD or similar federal programs
Strong knowledge of MIL-STD, FAR, CDRL, and federal documentation standards
Excellent leadership, communication, and people management skills
Proficiency in project management and content management tools, particularly SharePoint

Salary: $67,800 – $142,200
